Our engineers and scientists are key to Vale Inco's future in everything from finding new ore bodies to continually improving the performance of our mines and surface plants. We offer entry level and mid-career opportunities to work cooperatively with processing plant and mining personnel to optimize process and equipment operation. Our Engineer in Training (EIT) program provides guidance and mentoring of graduates, plus the experience needed to quickly acquire Professional Engineering standing. Our engineering positions provide excellent potential for growth and application of innovative ideas as well as advancement opportunities to most middle and senior management roles throughout the organization.
Opportunities exist at our operations worldwide in the following engineering disciplines:
- Chemical / Metallurgical Engineers in our operations conduct research; design, and develop chemical processes and equipment; oversee the operation and maintenance of mineral processing and refining plants and perform duties related to quality control, and environmental protection.
- Civil Engineers design and manage projects for the construction or repair of various buildings, roads, facilities and services. Civil Engineers may also take part in building and structural inspection, surveying and planning.
- Electrical Engineers design, develop, research, and evaluate electrical and electronic equipment and systems. They oversee and assist with new installations and modifications to existing equipment and systems. They trouble-shoot equipment malfunction and material processing upset and provide advice on interpretation of specifications and regulations governing electric equipment.
- Environmental Engineers/Scientists design, research and coordinate environmental studies and projects at all active mine and plant locations. They also oversee all decommissioning planning and project activities.
- Mechanical Engineers are accountable for research, design, development, operation and maintenance of fixed and mobile plant machinery and systems. They also undertake project work and feasibility studies related to the evaluation, installation, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems and the application of various materials, and pumping, storage and handling systems.
- Geological Engineers conduct studies to analyze geological and geotechnical conditions in our mines. They design, develop and supervise programs of geological data acquisition and analysis and the preparation of geological reports and recommendations for the development of short and long-term mining and mine development plans.
- Mining Engineers plan and design the development of mines, mine facilities, systems and equipment, and plan, organize and supervise the extraction of ores from our underground and open-pit operations. They provide advice on the most suitable mining methods with regard to the safety and health of workers and protection of the environment.
- Geologists, and Geophysicists conduct programs of exploration and data analysis to extend knowledge of the structure and composition of our ore bodies. They work cooperatively with our Mining Engineers to plan and implement programs of mineral extraction.
